Youth Diabetes Action - Youth Camp 2017

Venue: Don Bosco Youth Centre - 賽馬會長洲鮑思高青年中心

We had 50 diabetes participants to join this meaningful and popular event this year! Every kid (and medical volunteers like me lol) exhausted their energy and shedded their sweat to reward the invaluable courage and merriment! They have proved themselves capable and energetic even they need to prick their fingers and give the shots at times, but they could do it!

We feel pity to return earlier owing to the typhoon Hato but we swear we'll come back again next year!

衞生署獲通報回收數批次諾和筆Echo及諾和筆5

衞生署今日（七月三日）接獲醫療儀器製造商諾和諾德香港有限公司通知，因潛在安全問題，正從批發商、藥房、醫院及醫生回收共10個批次的胰島素注射筆「諾和筆Echo」及「諾和筆5」（圖片詳見網址）。使用受影響儀器的病人應盡快安排更換胰島素筆芯架。

　　諾和諾德公布，上述兩種儀器部分批次的胰島素筆芯架在接觸某些化學物（如清潔劑）後，可能破裂或斷裂。接受胰島素治療的糖尿病人如使用上述儀器，應更換胰島素筆芯架。受影響批次如下：

諾和筆5	DVG1930-1、EVG1027-2、EVG1125-2、EVG2296-1、FVG8655-2、FVG8656-1、FVG8659-3、FVG8888-1

　　製造商初步調查發現，受影響批次的胰島素筆芯架所用的新塑料，接觸某些化學物後可能會變弱。製造商已更換筆芯架物料，作為預防措施。

　　衞生署發言人說：「胰島素筆芯架一旦破裂或斷裂，可導致注射較預期劑量少的胰島素予糖尿病人，或會引致高血糖。病人如出現劇渴、尿頻、疲倦、脫水、呼吸帶果味或食慾不振等病徵，應立即求醫。」

　　根據本地供應商的資料，受影響批次已有74支「諾和筆Echo」及超過8 000支「諾和筆5」供應予本地市場。除向批發商、藥房、醫院及醫生回收外，使用受影響儀器的病人應到網上登記（www.novonordisk.com.hk 或www.novonordisk.com），或聯絡本地供應商的客戶服務，以領取不受影響的胰島素筆芯架。供應商已設立熱線（2387 8555）及電郵（HK-enquiry@novonordisk.com）供客戶查詢及通報不良事件。

　　發言人補充：「署方會提醒公私營醫院及相關醫學團體有關回收及更換通知，並會與本地供應商聯繫跟進工作。署方至今沒有接獲與上述儀器有關的不良事件。」

　　發言人說：「市民使用醫療儀器後如有疑問或不適，應徵詢醫護人員的意見。」

YDA Hike 2016

Today is World Diabetes Day. To commemorate this remarkable day, we have co-organized the "Hike for Youth Diabetes 2016" with YDA yesterday.

We started our journey at 10:45am, hiking from Siu Sai Wan Promenade Football Court to Big Wave Bay. It was our pleasure to see so many diabetes children and their families to join this meaningful program.

Beyond the pain: Youth Diabetes Action Petition HK Government to provide ALL medical consumables to children with type 1 diabetes

Youth Diabetes Action recently published a White Paper in November which revealed that many children with diabetes would rather risk the threat of complications and ill health than undergo blood glucose testing four to six times a day. Why? They do not want to be a financial burden to their families.
 

• People with type 1 diabetes must do finger prick blood tests and insulin injections 4-6 times a day for their entire lives
• The cost of medical supplies can be as much as $1,200 per month and are a significant financial burden for many families
• Good disease management can reduce the risk of complications. Support from the government can reduce the need for hospitalization, ultimately reducing the future burden of increased medical expenses for the government

 
Attention: Chief Executive and Financial Secretary of Hong Kong SAR
I urge the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to protect the health and wellbeing of children living with diabetes and provide ALL medical consumables to children with type 1 diabetes under aged 25 in the 2016-17 Budget.
